Cory Matthews gets detention after trying to listen to a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game in class while his teacher, Mr. Feeny, teaches the class the great value that love has in all of their lives, using Romeo and Juliet as a guide. Cory simply does not see love and girls as "good", especially when his older brother, Eric, takes a girl to a Phillies game, instead of him - which prompts Cory to move into his treehouse.

As a class water gun war escalates, Cory decides to paint Mr. Feeny's fence in order to earn money to buy an expensive water gun.

When Alan tries to bond with Cory by letting him stay up late to watch a baseball game, Cory falls asleep in class and fails a test.

After getting a new haircut, Cory winds up friends with the school's outcasts.

When Cory hears that grand prize of the geography bee is being batboy at the World Series, he enlists the help of Mr. Feeny.

Cory and Shawn find the answers for an IQ test and uses them to cheat on the test. After seeing the test results, Mr. Feeny decides to send Cory to a special school for geniuses. Meanwhile, Eric helps Morgan pick out her Halloween costume.

Cory's grandmother visits and gives Cory Cal Ripken's rookie card then makes promises she cannot keep such as a trip to Baltimore and getting the card signed by Cal Ripken himself. Meanwhile, Eric falls for Mr. Feeny's niece and Alan takes Shawn with him on a fishing trip.

Cory thinks that teaching is an easy job and Mr. Feeny agrees to switch roles and Cory teaches social studies for the week.

Mr. Feeny assigns the class to write about what they think their 20th class reunion. Cory's hopes of being a professional baseball player are dashed by Mr. Feeny and Alan gets Jim Abbott to come and give advice to Cory.

Shawn misinterprets Cory's holiday kindness as an act of charity after Shawn's father loses his job. Meanwhile, Morgan thinks that she killed Santa after he has a heart attack while she's on his lap.

Cory and Eric both don't want to attend the annual father/son softball game. Alan tells the boys that the game was cancelled but Cory learns from Topanga that the game was played. Upon hearing this, Cory and Eric try to come up with a way to make it up to their father.

Cory and Eric are convinced that Amy is having an affair after finding fancy clothing in her bowling bag instead of a bowling uniform and ball.

Eric visits Mr. Feeny's class as a guest speaker and Topanga develops a crush on him.

Cory feels let down when he is put on the basketball B-Team, which never plays, and can't get anyone at home to listen to his problem.

Cory's class is assigned to work as a family in a group with three other people and learns that there is no such thing as a perfect family. Meanwhile, Eric gets flattered into thinking that he can quit school to become a model.

Cory and Shawn bet on racehorses for a school project and begin to gamble in order to earn more money.

When Shawn blows up a mailbox at Alan's grocery store with a cherry bomb, he stays in Cory's room to avoid going home. Cory tries to keep this secret as long as he can but soon learns what it means to be a true friend and helps Shawn to face what he did.

Mr. Feeny foils Cory and Shawn's plan to sneak an R-rated movie into the house when he steps in as the boy's babysitter. Also, Eric fails his driving test but decides to take the car out anyway.

For Cory's birthday Alan gives him a necklace with silver gloves on them. Cory doesn't learn the story behind the necklace until he loses them at the pool.

Cory quits the class production of Hamlet because he doesn't like the costume and his role as Hamlet is filled by Minkus, who can't act.

Watching a film on puberty leads Shawn to have his first girlfriend and Cory to be jealous of Shawn.

Cory's wish comes true when Mr. Feeny becomes sick on exam day. But Cory feels guilty when Mr. Feeny winds up in the hospital.
